A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of taking headshots of Seattle cartoonist Dana Simpson. We decided to meet up at Gas Works Park to take advantage of the various backgrounds and also enjoy the beautiful weather of Seattle. Gas Works Park is one of my favorites spots in the city to take headshots photos.
If you need headshots book your photo session here.
If you follow my Instagram account @julievossphotography you already saw some pictures from our trip to California back in December. We had a lot of fun between celebrating Vicky’s birthday, meeting up with an old coworker, going to a couple of parks and enjoying the sunset on Venice Beach. Time flew by too fast. It’s not the first time in Los Angeles but there are so many things to see there that I did not see Venice Beach until this December.
You can find below a few pictures of the beautiful sunset on Venice Beach.
This is my first post from our new place! We moved to our new home a couple of weeks ago 🙂
While unpacking I found some forgotten treasures on my camera. I have been so busy lately that I never uploaded the pictures from our trip to the Oregon coast with my parents. Cannon Beach is one of my favorite places of the Pacific Northwest! In fact you can already find pictures of this beautiful place on the Happy Thanksgiving post from two years ago and am sure more will come. Have you ever been there? If not you definitely should!
Back in March we went on a road trip on the west coast. It was nice to go to different places. We drove from Seattle to Las Vegas, stopping by San Francisco for a few days and came back by Salt Lake City. In ten days we crossed seven states: Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada, Arizona, Utah and Idaho!
We came back home with plenty of memories from the lovely west coast: the people we met during our trip, the brakes of the car smoking because of the heat in Death Valley, the diversity of all the places we saw, the beautiful sunsets we were lucky enough to witness…
We had a really good time and can’t wait to do this again 🙂
Usually I don’t shoot weddings, this was a choice I made when starting Julie Voss Photography. However Aline and Jesse are my Seattle family. We spent Christmas eve together, Aline came to both of our weddings in France and Seattle and I was a witness of their union at the city court. I was so excited about their union that I had to capture those memories and brought my camera.
The big day was in Fairheaven, WA next to Bellingham. They could not have chosen a better day. It was sunny and warm. The outdoor area where the ceremony took place provided a perfect setting for beautiful wedding portraits.
To celebrate our two year wedding anniversary we decided to go to the top of the Seattle Space Needle. For four years I have been living in this city and I never took the time to visit its main attraction. It was about time. It’s funny how we never go to the cool places around where we live.
It was nice to see the city from above, especially by night. I love taking pictures of the city when the sun is down. The lights of the buildings constrasting with the dark sky always create beautiful images. The only element missing was the Space Needle. The view of Seattle without the Space Needle feels empty.
Happy new year to all of you! I hope you had a lot of fun during the holidays. I ate so much the pas couple of weeks ! Good food so I won’t be complaining 🙂
New year means new resolutions and goals. Last year I did not really have any but this year I decided to have several. I thought it would be fun to illustrate them with photos. So here are my goals for 2014:
1. Get Back to Shape
I know this one is coming back every year. Last year I did work out a lot. We did the Insanity workout with my husband. The first month was okay but the second was just impossible. We gave up a week before the end and postponed most of our work out hours.
This year I decided to eat less carbs. Currently I can eat carbs up to 3 times a day. I think this could also help me to be less tired during the day. I will try to keep track of my food with MyFitnessPal. Also, I decided to do ChaLEAN Extreme. This program looks more adapted to my goal. It’s only 5 times a week and mixing weight and cardio while Insanity is all about cardio.
This year I have two goals with photography:
1. Improve my photography skills
I am one of those thinking that photography is a constant training. Trends are changing. New techniques are coming. New technology discovered. Software improved. There are so many ways to improve your skills. As long as you are passionate you will always have the need to learn more. For this goal I am watching CreativeLive and other videos on YouTube. I am also following several photography blogs. But the best way to learn is to practice over and over until you get THE shot.
2. Develop my photography business
I have been doing photography for several years but only got my business license in September. You can take the best photos in the world but if nobody knows about it well .. nobody will ask for them. So my goal this year is to put my name out there. Beware Seattle I am coming.
3. Write a book
So this is my crazy goal for 2014, I am going to write a fiction, and in English please. Lately I have been reading a lot of books and I thought it would be fun to write my own. I am working on a young adult fiction. It’s not going to be easy as English is not my first language but my husband is here to help me to find my words. After telling him my idea he decided to write a book too. But his is totally different. I am happy we are doing this together.
If you want I will keep you posted in my progress so far I wrote the first draft of the first chapter and am working on the second chapter. I have so many ideas it’s hard to put them together 🙂 I am really excited about this project.
Time is flying so fast. I can’t believe 2013 is about to be over. It feels like I was with my friends celebrating the beginning of the year just yesterday. So many things happened this year, still it passed so fast.
We visited my friends and family in France. It was nice to see them after 2 years in the USA. My aunt got married. We got married. We survived a car accident and are still recovering. Hung out with my friends. My husband visited Paris for the first time.
Finally, I got the courage to start my photography business with the push of friends and family. I met a lot of new people who became good friends. Seattle feels like home now.
It was a great year and I am excited about my new projects for 2014!
This year we decided to keep it simple for our seasonal greeting cards. Just a white wall and Santa hats. We had a lot of fun during the photo-shoot.
We both wish you happy holidays! And see you in 2014!
Nowadays, everybody needs a professional headshot picture. Having a great photo is important for social media such as Facebook or LinkedIn but also for work and business as your company website might have a page ‘about’ with the photography of every employee.
The head shot photographer focus on the face of the subject usually framing the picture from head-to-midchest, or from head to just above the waist. A good headshot photography will showcase the personality of the person. Shooting on location, outdoor or at clients’ home, allows me to showcase the character and get unique pictures for each of my clients.
This week I met with Larry Cohen to take head-shot pictures. You can see below some of my favorites from the session!
Last weekend we went camping to the Pacific Coast. I love going to the coast because it’s such a beautiful place, espcecially during sunset as the sun is going down right on the beach. We stayed in Rialto Beach but also checked out La Push and Forks. It was funny to be in Forks, everything is related to the books/movies of twilight.
