New Year Resolutions For 2014

Happy new year to all of you! I hope you had a lot of fun during the holidays. I ate so much the pas couple of weeks ! Good food so I won’t be complaining 🙂

New year means new resolutions and goals. Last year I did not really have any but this year I decided to have several. I thought it would be fun to illustrate them with photos. So here are my goals for 2014:

1. Get Back to Shape

2014 resolution: go back to shape I know this one is coming back every year. Last year I did work out a lot. We did the Insanity workout with my husband. The first month was okay but the second was just impossible. We gave up a week before the end and postponed most of our work out hours.

This year I decided to eat less carbs. Currently I can eat carbs up to 3 times a day. I think this could also help me to be less tired during the day. I will try to keep track of my food with MyFitnessPal. Also, I decided to do ChaLEAN Extreme. This program looks more adapted to my goal. It’s only 5 times a week and mixing weight and cardio while Insanity is all about cardio.

2. Photography

This year I have two goals with photography:

1. Improve my photography skills

I am one of those thinking that photography is a constant training. Trends are changing. New techniques are coming. New technology discovered. Software improved. There are so many ways to improve your skills. As long as you are passionate you will always have the need to learn more. For this goal I am watching CreativeLive and other videos on YouTube. I am also following several photography blogs. But the best way to learn is to practice over and over until you get THE shot.

2. Develop my photography business

I have been doing photography for several years but only got my business license in September. You can take the best photos in the world but if nobody knows about it well .. nobody will ask for them. So my goal this year is to put my name out there. Beware Seattle I am coming.

3. Write a book

Self Portrait

So this is my crazy goal for 2014, I am going to write a fiction, and in English please. Lately I have been reading a lot of books and I thought it would be fun to write my own. I am working on a young adult fiction. It’s not going to be easy as English is not my first language but my husband is here to help me to find my words. After telling him my idea he decided to write a book too. But his is totally different. I am happy we are doing this together.

If you want I will keep you posted in my progress so far I wrote the first draft of the first chapter and am working on the second chapter. I have so many ideas it’s hard to put them together 🙂 I am really excited about this project.

And you what are your goals for 2014?

December 2013

Holidays Greetings from Seattle, WA

Time is flying so fast. I can’t believe 2013 is about to be over. It feels like I was with my friends celebrating the beginning of the year just yesterday. So many things happened this year, still it passed so fast.

We visited my friends and family in France. It was nice to see them after 2 years in the USA. My aunt got married. We got married. We survived a car accident and are still recovering. Hung out with my friends. My husband visited Paris for the first time.

Finally, I got the courage to start my photography business with the push of friends and family. I met a lot of new people who became good friends. Seattle feels like home now.

It was a great year and I am excited about my new projects for 2014!

This year we decided to keep it simple for our seasonal greeting cards. Just a white wall and Santa hats. We had a lot of fun during the photo-shoot.

We both wish you happy holidays! And see you in 2014!

Homemade studio

After brainstorming about what could be done for the invitations for our second wedding in France we decided to make them ourselves. Knowing that we would be taking the pictures ourselves we decided to do it indoors. The only issue is that our apartment only has white/beige walls and we wanted something more colorful. So we decided to go to Joann to get a nice fabric (they always have sales 🙂 ). My husband helped me to put the fabric on the door of the den and taped it. Then we added the lights he got me for Christmas and then we took tons of photos 🙂

Happy New Year!

Happy new year to everybody! I hope you had a good time during the holidays! Santa was very nice this year, he got me an umbrella kit. I have been wanting to do the following pictures forever, so I was very excited to discover the kit. For this shooting I used 2 black reflectors and one umbrella. My husband was kind enough to be my model 🙂

Self-portrait

Yesterday I took some pictures. Lately, I have read a lot about reflectors and wanted to try to use it inside with natural light coming through the window. So I put my reflector in front of the window above my white sofa and placed my camera between the sofa and the reflectors. Then I connected my camera to my computer and used the remote control to take some pictures. I really like the light with this setting.

Sunny Photoshoot

For several weeks now,  I have been meeting with a group of photographers in order to improve our skills. I am now the happy owner of the Westcott 5-in-1 Reflector Kit (40-inch) 🙂 Last week Sunny volunteered to be our model. We used a studio light with the reflector. The first pictures are taken with the black side of the reflector to create a shadow.

Donna

Monday was the first time I met with my friends Bénédicte and Donna to take some photos. Donna brought her studio lighting set to my apartment and we worked on portraits. It was the first time I was working with this kind of equipment.

We tried several techniques. First we just took pictures with the studio lighting set. After, I set up my camera with slow shutter speed and asked Donna to move in order to create some movement in the pictures. Then I tried to take pictures of Donna in front of the light and used my speed light in front.
